Where to Watch the Night View Inside Your Room: Bed, Bathtub, Pool

After reading this, you can choose a hotel by where you want to watch the night view: bed, bathtub, or pool.

Hotel tower facing the Lujiazui skyscrapers

The Oriental Pearl Tower across from Shanghai's Bund photographs well even on a phone.

I took photos with my phone too, and I think they come out that way no matter who takes them.

So when choosing a night-view hotel, "where you are when you see it" stays with you more than "whether you can see it."

A room where you watch from a window-side chair, a room where you watch lying in bed, a room where you watch soaking in the tub, and a hotel where you watch from the pool are all different.

Window-side chairs and corner rooms

The most common spot is a window-side chair.

Hyatt On The Bund has photos of rooms where you see the Bund night view from a window-side chair.

There are also photos of corner rooms with windows on two sides.

Grand Hyatt Shanghai also has photos of corner rooms with a night view through floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides.

Corner rooms have windows on two sides, so the view is wider than from a window facing one direction.

Puyan Hotel The Bund has rooms with a sofa and desk in front of curved floor-to-ceiling windows.

There are also photos where sitting in a window-side chair, you see the riverside at night.

JI Hotel The Bund Sichuan Zhong Road has rooms with a terrace with metal chairs.

It's a spot to sit outside in the night air, not behind a window.

Rooms where you see it from bed

If the bed faces the window, you can turn off the lights and watch the night view lying down.

It's the best spot when you come back late and can't be bothered to go out again.

At The Eton Hotel, you can see Pudong's three towers lying in bed.

You can also clearly see the boats going up and down the Huangpu River.

There are photos of king rooms with a night view through floor-to-ceiling windows.

The rooms are spacious and the view is wide open.

However, the beds are a little on the short side.

If you're tall, go knowing this.

More about this hotel is in the article on The Eton Hotel's river-view rooms.

Puyan Hotel also has photos of rooms with the bed by the window.

From the room window, you can see Suzhou Creek and the Oriental Pearl Tower together.

The bedding is comfortable, so you don't feel tired.

The bathroom has a freestanding tub and two sinks.

However, there's no full-length mirror in the room, which is a bit of a shame when checking your outfit.

W Shanghai – The Bund is a hotel known for the scene of lying under a duvet by the window looking at the Oriental Pearl Tower.

To see this scene, you need to book a room with Pearl Tower View in the name.

The room has dim-sum-shaped cushions and chopstick objects, so the decor is on the playful side.

How to choose by room name is summarized in Room names that see the Oriental Pearl Tower.

At the Haiou Regent, from the bed in Suite 06 you see the Oriental Pearl Tower when you open your eyes.

Rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows get a lot of light in the morning.

Hyatt On The Bund has blackout curtains in the rooms, so if you watch the night view and sleep in, just draw the curtains.

Rooms where you see it from the bathtub

In rooms with a tub by the window, you watch the night view while bathing.

Whether the bathroom is on the window side, you can only tell from the room photos.

Having a bathtub and being able to see outside from the bathtub are different things.

Hyatt On The Bund has photos of rooms where you see the riverside night view from a window-side tub.

There's also a photo of a bathroom overlooking the river.

However, the bathroom floor is marble and tends to be slippery.

If you're going with kids or parents, be sure to put down a bath mat.

Grand Hyatt Shanghai has photos of a marble bathroom with a tub by the window.

Rooms start from the 58th floor, so even from the tub you look down over the city from high up.

The hair dryer is a Dyson and the shower pressure is strong.

The glass shower booth is separate from the tub, so you can shower in the booth and use the tub only for watching the night view.

Shanghai Marriott Marquis City Centre also has photos of a window-side tub.

It's a photo with city scenery beyond the tub.

From Bund-view rooms, you can see the Oriental Pearl Tower and Pudong's three towers right in front of you.

The amenities smell nice too.

The Eton Hotel also has photos of a window-side tub looking out over the city.

The sink and bathroom are separate, so it's easy for two people to get ready at the same time.

There are also king rooms with a glass-walled bathroom, a layout where you can see from the bathroom through the room to the window.

At Radisson Collection Hyland, the bathtub is nice.

However, Radisson's bathtub photos don't show a window.

There are no shelves in the bathroom, so there's no good place for toiletries.

At the Haiou Regent, from the tub in Suite 06 you can see the three towers: Shanghai Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center, and Jin Mao Tower.

The living room and bathroom each have their own terrace.

Hotels where you see it from the pool

You can enjoy a night view from the pool regardless of your room view.

That means even if you book a city-view room, you can watch the night view from the pool.

This is a good approach when you need several rooms, like on a family trip.

At Regent Shanghai Pudong, the Oriental Pearl Tower stands right in front of the glass windows of the 41st-floor indoor pool.

It's a place where you float and look at the tower.

There's also a Jacuzzi next to it.

It's prettiest just before sunset and around the time the lights come on.

Lighting times are summarized in When do the Bund lights turn on?.

The Ritz-Carlton Pudong also has a night view from its indoor pool.

Grand Hyatt Shanghai has an indoor pool with a view.

It's a pool with separate lanes under a golden ceiling, good for doing laps as exercise.

There's also a photo of treadmills where you run while watching the night view.

Hyatt On The Bund has an indoor pool with sun loungers, and the pool is well maintained.

Marriott Marquis has an indoor pool with skylights, plus a sauna, steam room, and even a hot tub.

Marriott Marquis also has family rooms decorated with a yellow duck character, so if you go with kids you can enjoy the pool and the room together.

Kids also love the scallion oil noodles and Shanghai-style pan-fried dumplings at breakfast.

These two are places where the facilities for resting after swimming are better than the pool windows.

Grand Hyatt also has a spa, sauna, and hot tub, good for warming up after a swim.

W Shanghai – The Bund has a rooftop bar with a pool.

Lots of photos taken here at night get shared around.

The indoor pool is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

There are also spots outside the room

Some hotels let you see the Oriental Pearl Tower from your breakfast seat.

Puyan Hotel has photos of window tables with the Oriental Pearl Tower in view.

Grand Hyatt also has photos of restaurant seats with the Oriental Pearl Tower outside the window.

Hyatt On The Bund has photos of its top-floor bar and a rooftop terrace overlooking Lujiazui.

The Eton has lounge windows with the Lujiazui night view.

Marriott Marquis also has a lounge with night scenery beyond triangular windows.

Radisson Hyland has a private room with a round table and Lujiazui outside the window.

Some hotels let you look outside from a spa room.

Both Hyatt On The Bund and Grand Hyatt have photos of spa rooms with massage beds by the window.

Choose like this

  • If you'll relax in the room and watch the night view until late, choose a hotel with rooms where the bed faces the window.
  • If you love baths, choose a hotel with photos of a window-side tub. Don't just trust the word "bathtub"; check for the window in the photos.
  • If you're booking several rooms or hesitating because view rooms are expensive, choose a hotel with a good pool view.
  • If you're going with parents, check the bathroom floor and tub height first. Not slipping comes before the night view.
  • If you're going with kids, a hotel with a pool makes evenings easier to spend.

Other questions

What should I keep in mind when photographing the night view from the room?

If you turn off the room lights when shooting, the room lighting won't reflect in the glass.

Holding your phone right up against the window reduces reflections.

If I had to pick just one, bed or bathtub?

For 1 night, the bed side is better.

You watch the night view late at night before falling asleep, so the spot where you lie down gets used the longest.

For 2 nights or more, you can split it up and enjoy, say, the tub one night and the pool the other.

Whichever spot, if the floor is low you see less.

The floor story is in Floors that see the Bund and the Oriental Pearl Tower.

On cloudy days the tower looks hazy, so check the weather too.

Prices change by date, so check them for your own dates.
