Where to Stay in Málaga: Which Neighborhood?

Málaga is a city where the airport is close to the city center.

So when choosing a hotel, rather than airport access, first decide whether to stay in the old town or go for a hilltop view.

The Alcazaba fortress and Plaza de la Merced are in Centro.

Gibralfaro Hill

Great for those who want to relax while looking down over the sea and the city.

Parador de Málaga Gibralfaro is on the hill just below Gibralfaro Castle.

It is a hotel belonging to Parador, the Spanish state-run hotel chain.

Some reviews say you can see the sea from the room terrace.

Other reviews say the night view of Málaga from the terrace was great.

Some reviews say that being on the hill, you can see both sunrise and sunset.

It is about a 13-minute walk to the Parque de Málaga and about 14 minutes to the Alcazaba fortress.

Plaza de la Merced is about 16 minutes away.

The nearest metro station, Atarazanas, is about a 24-minute walk.

There is on-site parking, so it also suits road trips around Andalusia by rental car.

You have to walk up and down a hill road, so if someone in your group has trouble walking, consider taking a taxi.

From the Airport to the City Center

Málaga Airport has a station on the C1 commuter rail line.

The C1 line takes about 12 minutes to central Málaga.

It is about 8 minutes to Málaga María Zambrano Station, where high-speed trains stop.

In the opposite direction, the C1 line goes to Benalmádena and Fuengirola.

Our hotel is about 9km from the airport in a straight line.
